Haircuts, Hats, and Headaches...
So it's week like 4 out here? I honestly don't know haha, but we still have no investigators, and no signs of investigators. I’m praying something will happen, but it probably won't be until the Fall. Everyone leaves during the summer and moves to the countryside with their whole extended family and parties it up and has a good time until school starts up again. So we are still just chilling and finding stuff to keep us busy. We did teach a few new member discussions this week though. So it's good out here, the lack of work drives some people crazy, but I love it, I really get to soak in Mongolia and it really is my favorite thing. Everything here is so freaking cool and different and completely opposite of America. I love it. Also I forgot my journal so this is really going to be all by memory haha, so I definitely wont get all the stuff that happened this week. So here's how my week went:
Wednesday: So today I decided it was time to get a haircut. Pretty daring for my blonde hair. So I went to the haircutter place (there's hundreds of them here, everyone and their dog cuts hair). I had this lady cut my hair and she was so nervous the whole time. Long story short, she used Fiskar scissors and there are really bad lines in my hair and the back she had to pretty much buzz because she messed up. It was crazy, but it only cost me $2 (in american). But then I went back to the apartment and grabbed some of my sewing scissors and fixed my hair as best I could and I saved it. So I might just cut my own hair from now on haha.
Thursday: I honestly can't remember really what happened this day, but we just hung out and walked around and visted some stores. It was cool. Then we found a market that sells goat heads. Yeah, its really crazy, and people were actually buying them.
Friday: I taught again at the University! We have about 10-15 students. It was good, we had to teach them the basic hello how are you stuff though, but it was good. Teaching is really fun. And after that Garcia had to go on a zone leader district leader split so I was with Elder Tuckett. So we went back to the apartment and just went to bed, we were wasted from the long day.
Saturday: I woke up feeling kinda sick, but I was fine. So we went to the black market and I bought a backpack and some fox hats! These fox hats are freaking dope, like they are so legit. Then we just hungout and went back to the apartment and made some food, and then met up with garcia and got some dinner. So a really chill day.
Sunday: Sunday's are good, I'm a fan of church, but that isn't where the story lies. So Sunday night we had dinner with some other elders and on the way home we took a bus. And I was feeling pretty sick by now, fever, aches, and a few other symptoms that I'll leave out, and I was standing up on the bus. And I noticed this old guy was looking at me for a while and then he just stood up and told me to use his seat. And here you always give up your seat to the old people. Its a culture thing here, you never sit down if there is an old person standing up. So he gave me his seat which was so kind of him, I don't know why it touched me so much, but it really did. The small things in life mean more than you know.
Monday: So I woke up feeling like straight garbage. I didn't really sleep at all Sunday night but I did manage to get some sleep. So we took it really easy today. I slept for a while and rested and read a lot of gospel books. They were really good (also mom can you send me the teachings of Brigham Young?). So then we eventually left the apartment and I mailed those fox hats home to Easton and Dad. They are so freaking legit you guys oh my word. We are going to be real mountain men after I get home. Mongolians are the original mountain men, their boots and hats and everything. These people are tough let me tell ya. So after that we went and got tacos again (that place is my favorite, love tacos) and then we went to another elders apartment who also has no investigators and visited with them. It was really nice. Then we just chilled with the elders the rest of the day. Another really chill day.
Still haven't had yaks milk yet haha. But maybe soon. They sell milk here in bags which is weird. At church they have a self playing piano so I don't have to play which kinda blows because I never practice now, but oh well.
Love you all!
Austin
